Figured I should really add what pictures I have left on my PC here, since I took them back when I was still rebuilding the bike with the new engine.

Here you can see the new 998s engine waiting to be fitted!  This baby has the deep sump, titanium rods etc. :o)

Here's my old engine, still with the slipper clutch and titanium bolts fitted, I will transfer the engine bolts over to the new motor once it's in place.

Below you can see pictures of the bike as I had to strip it in order to get the engine fitted and make the necessary modifications required for the conversion.

Below you can see the engine in the bike and back as a rolling chassis.  I had to open up the engine mounting holes to take the larger 998 bolts, only a couple of mm though.

The main modification was to the throttle bodies which you can see below, as the coils on the 998 models are mounted on the outside of the frame, where as mine were mounted inside.  I overcame this by removing one of the inner coil mounts and modifying the throttle body support brackets with a half-moon cutout to clear the cross member in the frame.  The structure is different on the 998 frame to allow extra clearence for the larger 60mm throttle bodies.

The way I overcame the coil problem was to use a set of coilpacks, these are the same as fitted to a GSXR1000, and probably almost every new sportsbike out now.  You can see them below.

That's about all the pics I had, after the engine was installed I transferred over all the titanium bolts from the old engine and just reassembled the bike as before.   I've since added a powercommander and so hope to get the bike on the dyno next year (2005).  I've got a new oil cooler from Mocal to fit, but when I do that is anyone's guess. :o)

That's about it for this project, there's been good and bad times along the way but the finished bike is everything I would have wanted (umm headlight?) when I started this project all those years ago.  I'll leave this site running for information and for anyone passing through who fancies a read.  Who knows, perhaps I'll start another project but that will be another story.  For now I'll just enjoy riding the beast I've created.... ;o)

Catch ya later peeps!
Chris :o)
